After a stellar undefeated season, the Women's Football team wrapped up an ADISL Championship win against their all-time rivals up the road - American University of Dubai.
The game was off to a solid start, until a penalty was issued (and scored) against NYUAD within the first 5 minutes of the match. With 20 minutes to go, the ladies knew they had a job to do, and were determined to succeed. Their spirits were high and they were on the attack, striking close with several chances from Caroline, Mia, and Arantza. The Falcons were on the attack, and AUD was caught scrambling from the defensive line. A missed clearance shot by the AUD goalkeeper sent Arantza charging forward and equalizing into an open net. At 1-1, the ladies were determined to finish the job. On a counter-attack, Caroline dribbled from the halfway line to goal, and at the last minute, gave a pass back to Mia who placed it in the back of the net making it 2-1 to the Falcons, taking them into half-time.
After half, the ladies played as an organized unit, keeping possession of the ball, and dominating the center midfield with Mia taking charge. The defence was impenetrable with Alia & Suraiya (C) closing down the AUD attackers, leaving Madeline with few saves to make throughout the game.
The Falcons were breaking through the AUD defence comfortably, and a third goal was in the works. With 5 minutes left on the clock, a corner kick was awarded to NYUAD. Captain Arantza crossed the ball into the far post, reaching Caroline who flung it across the box to Alia, sealing the Falcons victory with a third goal.
It was a well-deserved win for the Falcons, celebrating in front of a large NYUAD crowd of support.
The Women's Football team will now take part in a 5-a-side university league organized by PSUAD.
