Special Needs Adaptive Program

Special Needs Adaptive Program (SNAP) Basketball is an NYU Abu Dhabi outreach program in partnership with the community group Goals UAE. SNAP launched in Spring 2015 and is a weekly program where NYUAD student volunteers ‘buddy-up’ with children on the autism spectrum to teach athletic skills under the guidance of NYUAD Athletics coaches. The goals of the program are to provide a safe inclusive environment for recreational sports, using basketball as a means to improve social communication skills and integration.

Special Needs Adaptive Program (SNAP) AQUATICS is an NYUAD outreach program that launched in Fall 2016. Building on the success of SNAP Basketball, this swimming program engages NYUAD student volunteers who ‘buddy-up’ with children with a range of disabilities to teach swimming skills under the guidance of NYUAD Aquatics coach. The goals of the program are to provide a safe inclusive environment for recreational sport and helping budding young swimmers increase their confidence and skills.
